Can I say I am in love with this soap? The smell is so fresh and wonderful and it just smells like home to me. I've been making this soap for a number of years (at least 7) and it's never let me down yet (actually, I am grating bars to make some tonight!).
So, if you want clean clothes and a great scent (and an UBER cheap price!)? You want this soap!
It literally costs me a little over $20 to make this. And it lasts....wait for it.....wait for it.....AN ENTIRE YEAR! That's right, boys and girls, I pay only around $20 a year for laundry soap!
And you can do, if you follow these directions below!
How to make your homemade laundry soap:
Get a medium-small sized rubbermaid bin (as shown below) and put in:
- 1 4 lb 12 oz box Borax (2.15 kg or 76 oz)
- 1 4 lb box Arm & Hammer Baking Soda (1.81 kg)
- 1 box Arm and Hammer Super Washing Soda 55 oz (3 lb 7 oz)
- 3 bars of Fels-Naptha soap, (grated on a grater that's ONLY for this soap--I use 3 graters and put my family to work!)
- One large container of Oxy Clean or store brand Oxy Clean
Mix together with a large mixing spoon (that's dedicated for this purpose only). And bam! You're done!
I use the Oxy Clean scooper to dish this out, 1 scoop per load, sometimes a little more for bigger loads. All of these ingredients are found in the laundry aisle at Walmart and around $20 for all of them! I use dollar store graters, one per bar and let my family help me (with plastic/vinyl gloves on) grate each one.
And that's it! I love this soap so much and it works for ALL washers. Spread this recipe far and wide, esp. to your friends who are always running out of laundry soap! (Hint: you can put it in a pretty container and give it as a gift to them!)
SIDENOTE: Many people ask me if this soap leaves any residue on clothes, being that it's powder. I have never had an issue with this, probably because I add the soap into the washer while it's filling with water BEFORE I add my clothes. Another tip from my house to yours, is that my my favorite laundry add-in is Gain Fireworks Moonlight Breeze. I add a little with the laundry soap in the in the water before putting my clothes in and it makes everything smell absolutely wonderful 😃
