Have you ever just felt off after meeting someone? You can't put your finger on it, but it feels somewhat familiar in a way you can't explain? The person seemed nice enough, but there were times when the things they said or did just felt wrong or inappropriate or made you feel bad inside without you understanding why. Or maybe you listened to them talk for an hour and never got to say anything in return?
Perhaps you've just met a narcissist. I will say that narcs are amazingly good at hiding their true forms. At least in the beginning. And some? Can take years before you realize who they really are. But you can become adept at learning how to keep an eye out for a possible narcissist right from the get-go with the list below.
Just remember a few things, though:
- Not all people who have narcissistic traits actually have NPD. If someone is raised by a narcissist, they can exhibit learned traits that can be overcome. Depending on the severity, some traits can be unlearned, as long as the person can admit there is an issue (if they can't then that's a sure sign of NPD).
- This list is a small part of what it means to be a narcissist. The actual list is much, much bigger and contains many more complex issues. This list is for informational purposes only and is just here to help you identify possible narcissistic behaviors to watch out for.
Knowledge is power.
The more we know about NPD the more we can protect ourselves against those who have it. And early detection is key in protecting ourselves and our families.
