So, sit down and explore with either your inner therapist or in your journal where and why these two parts of you exist. Where did they come from? How do they show up? And what will you call them?
Like take me for example. Inside of me, there are two forces, constantly shifting, constantly dancing—The Evolved One and The Feral One. They are not enemies, but they do not always agree. They are both me, both essential, both carrying wisdom in their own ways.
🌿 The Evolved One: The Stillness Within
The Evolved One is the part of me that sees the world through the lens of wisdom, patience, and compassion. She understands that people suffer, and their actions are simply reflections of their pain, their conditioning, their own wounded inner parts. She doesn’t take things personally because she sees the bigger picture—life is fleeting, attachment is suffering, and the only thing that matters is love.
She is the Buddhist, the seeker, the stillness behind the storm.
She realizes that people act from their own life experiences and trauma and nothing anyone ever says or does has anything to do with her and everything to do with them. She's understanding, even when someone is screaming or yelling. She's the calm in the storm around her.
She believes in holding space rather than reacting, in offering understanding instead of judgment. She sees beyond the surface, past the anger, the ignorance, the selfishness, and into the human beneath it all. She reminds me that life is not about controlling the world, but about mastering my own mind.
She stems from my training in Buddhism, and from reading don Miguel Ruiz books and from a lifetime of trying to understand the world around me. She is my "inner sage".
But she does not travel alone.
🔥 The Feral One: The Untamed Fire
The Feral One is the part of me that has had enough. She is done with silence, done with tolerance, done with excusing bad behavior in the name of understanding. She has watched people take advantage, get away with selfishness, speak without thinking, harm without consequence. And she is tired of letting it all slide.
She is wild, raw, and unfiltered. She wants to call out hypocrisy, speak her truth, and set the world straight. She is the voice that rises in my chest when I see injustice, when I feel unheard, when I watch people take kindness for weakness.
She doesn’t care for pleasantries. She doesn’t sugarcoat. She growls, “Enough. People need to be held accountable. Speak up. Say the thing that needs to be said!”
She is fire where The Evolved One is water. She is sharp where The Evolved One is soft. She is electric like wild lightening where The Evolved One is grounded.
And yet, she too has wisdom. She is the protector, the boundary-setter, the warrior who refuses to let passivity become a cage.
Her presence is soft but powerful, like the ocean at sunrise—calm, deep, endless.
She came from my need to stand up for myself due to my abuse growing up. She's my "inner teenager".
The Balance: Learning to Let Them Coexist
For most of my life, I have tried to silence one or the other—to either become purely evolved or let my feral instincts take the wheel. But I am learning that they both exist for a reason.
🔹 The Evolved One reminds me to stay rooted in love and wisdom.
🔹 The Feral One reminds me not to let wisdom turn into silence.
I need both.
I need The Evolved One to keep me from becoming bitter.
I need The Feral One to keep me from becoming a doormat.
Together, they shape the whole of who I am.
Together, they teach me that growth is not about erasing parts of myself but learning when to let each one step forward.
Some days, I let The Evolved One guide me. I breathe, I detach, I flow.
Other days, I let The Feral One have her say. I stand my ground, I roar, I refuse to be small.
And in this balance, I find my truest self.
But how do I do this? How do find the balance that makes me feel like I am not losing control when The Feral One wants to come out? Or so I don't act feel like a doormat after The Evolved One steps into an argument. Well, that's where The Echo Effect comes into play. It's a visualization method that helps you integrate a dualistic perspective into your being so you can feel good about how you handle conflict (or whatever other issue you're facing).
Here's a step-by-step process to using The Echo Effect:
- Sit down somewhere comfy and relax. Turn on some soft music if you like.
- Count slowly, from ten to one, taking a deep breath between each number.
- Identify your two opposite beliefs.
- Pick one and fully feel it. Hold it in your mind and let it fully wash over you. Be one with it.
- Then switch to the other belief. Hold that one in your mind and let it fully wash over you. Become one with it.
- Do this back and forth, fully feeling each one, but switching between them faster while tapping one knee for each belief, like a pendulum back and forth.
- When you feel like you've done this enough, then try to hold both beliefs at the same time and allow them to merge together at your core.
- When you feel that you're finished, count back up from one to ten, taking a deep breath between each number.
- When you feel that you're ready, open your eyes and shake out your limbs and stretch.
Notice the shift—typically, the polarization dissolves, and a sense of neutrality emerges. They both will still be a part of you, but now you'll be able to integrate them both into your responses or actions when the need arises.
If you still find yourself having issues with your opposing parts being too strong, then keep doing this technique until they fully integrate. Sometimes it takes more than once for it to stick.
I will be making a video soon on this so you can follow along. Keep a watch to see when I upload it.
