The 12 Types of Wealth (Reframing Wealth Series)



When we hear the word "wealth," our minds often go straight to money. While financial wealth is undoubtedly important, it is just one piece of a much larger picture. True abundance comes from a balance of multiple forms of wealth, each contributing to a fulfilled and meaningful life. In this post, we will explore the different types of wealth and how they all connect back to mental wealth—the foundation of a rich and rewarding existence. 


  1. Financial Wealth – Money, assets, investments, and financial security.
  2. Mental Wealth – A strong, resilient mind, emotional intelligence, knowledge, and inner peace.
  3. Physical Wealth – Good health, vitality, and the ability to enjoy life without physical limitations.
  4. Spiritual Wealth – A sense of purpose, inner harmony, and connection to something greater than oneself.
  5. Social Wealth – Meaningful relationships, a strong support network, and a sense of community.
  6. Emotional Wealth – The ability to regulate emotions, experience joy, and cultivate a positive outlook.
  7. Time Wealth – Freedom over your time, being able to spend it how you choose rather than being constantly busy.
  8. Creative Wealth – The ability to express yourself freely through art, music, writing, or other creative outlets.
  9. Experiential Wealth – A life rich with meaningful experiences, travel, learning, and adventure.
  10. Knowledge Wealth – Accumulating wisdom, skills, and education that enrich your life and others'.
  11. Environmental Wealth – Living in a clean, beautiful, and sustainable environment that nourishes well-being.
  12. Family Wealth – The strength, health, and harmony of your family relationships.

Let's dig into each one of these:

1. Financial Wealth


This is the most commonly recognized form of wealth—money, assets, and investments. While financial security can provide comfort and opportunities, it is not the sole determinant of a rich life. True financial wealth isn’t just about how much money you have, but how well you use it to enhance your overall well-being.  In this series we'll be discussing our relationships to money and how to heal them, as well as how to make more of it when we need to.  

2. Mental Wealth


Mental wealth is the strength and resilience of your mind. It includes emotional intelligence, self-awareness, knowledge, and the ability to navigate life’s challenges. Without mental wealth, other forms of abundance can feel empty. A strong, healthy mind allows you to appreciate and maximize all other aspects of wealth.  In this series, we'll be discussing how our mental health matters the most on this list of the different types of wealth, and how we can make it stronger every single day.

3. Physical Wealth


Your health is one of your greatest assets. Physical wealth includes strength, vitality, and well-being. It allows you to fully engage in life, pursue your passions, and enjoy experiences to the fullest. Investing in your health pays dividends in every other area of life.  In this series we'll be talking about the role of diet and how it help and/or hurt us, as well as ways to be more physically strong without putting too much strain on our bodies.  

4. Spiritual Wealth


A sense of purpose, inner harmony, and connection to something greater than yourself defines spiritual wealth. It could come from religion, personal philosophy, or a deep connection with nature. Spiritual wealth brings meaning to life and helps you stay grounded during difficult times.  And even if you're an atheist, there ways to develop a deep and meaningful spiritual life, which is something we're going to be covering in this series.

5. Social Wealth


The relationships we build—family, friends, mentors, and community—are invaluable. Social wealth provides support, love, and a sense of belonging. Strong, healthy relationships contribute to overall happiness and emotional well-being.  We'll be discussing in this series how to create your own social connections through developing your own social groups.  

6. Emotional Wealth


Emotional wealth is the ability to regulate your emotions, find joy, and cultivate a positive mindset. It allows you to handle life’s ups and downs with grace and resilience. A strong emotional foundation enhances mental wealth and improves your interactions with others.  In this series we're going to be exploring what it means to be emotionally wealthy and how to cultivate it through deep introspection and emotional resilience.

7. Time Wealth


Having control over how you spend your time is a form of wealth often overlooked. Time wealth means having the freedom to engage in activities that bring you joy, whether that’s pursuing hobbies, spending time with loved ones, or simply resting when needed.  In this series we'll be exploring ideas for taking back your time through alternate career routes and learning how to say no to things that drain you.

8. Creative Wealth


Creativity is a form of self-expression and personal fulfillment. Whether through art, music, writing, or problem-solving, creative wealth brings joy and innovation into life. It helps cultivate mental wealth by providing an outlet for self-discovery and emotional processing.  In this series we'll be exploring various styles of art medicine.  

9. Experiential Wealth


Life is made up of moments, and experiential wealth comes from filling your life with meaningful experiences. Traveling, learning new skills, and embracing adventures enrich your life beyond material possessions.  In this series we'll be talking about 

10. Knowledge Wealth


Lifelong learning is a treasure. Knowledge wealth includes formal education, skills, wisdom, and personal growth. It enables you to adapt, evolve, and make informed decisions that enhance every other type of wealth.  In this series we'll be talking about all of the different modes of learning, as well as the many different ways you can teach others what you've learned so you can share your knowledge wealth with others.  

11. Environmental Wealth


The spaces we inhabit and the natural world around us influence our well-being. Environmental wealth includes living in a clean, beautiful, and sustainable environment that nurtures your health and peace of mind.  In this series we'll be discussing various types of organizing, as well as different ways to design our outdoor spaces in ways that deepen our connection to the world around us and ourselves.  

12. Family Wealth


The strength, health, and harmony of your family relationships. It includes emotional bonds, generational wisdom, traditions, and the love and support that family provides. Family wealth is built through quality time, open communication, shared values, and a deep sense of connection across generations.

Bringing It All Back to Mental Wealth


At the heart of all these forms of wealth is mental wealth. A strong, resilient mind allows you to appreciate financial stability, cultivate healthy relationships, find joy in experiences, and make the most of your time. When mental wealth is prioritized, every other form of abundance becomes more accessible and meaningful.
